Shanna Moakler says she is ‘not pregnant’ and had a false positive test due to weight loss hormone

Must Try

Shanna Moakler says she’s not pregnant, as she received a false positive test as result of a hormone she took for weight loss ahead of her appearance on Celebrity Big Brother.

‘I am not pregnant,’ Moakler, 46, told Page Six on Wednesday. ‘I received a false positive test due to the fact I had taken a hormone called HCG to help me lose weight for Big Brother.’

The Providence, Rhode Island-born beauty said the hormone she took ‘is the same … that is produced when a woman is pregnant resulting in the false positive.’

The former Miss USA told the outlet that having children in the future is ‘not out of the question for’ her.

Moakler is mother to son Landon, 18, and daughter Alabama, 16, with ex Travis Barker, 46, who she was married to from 2004 to 2008; and daughter Atiana De La Hoya, 22, from her former engagement to boxer Oscar De La Hoya, 49.

The Pacific Blue actress earlier this month told People that she was expecting her fourth child after testing positive in a pregnancy test.

‘I took a pregnancy test, and it is positive,’ Moakler told the publication March 3. ‘I’m taking everything day by day.’

The American Pregnancy Association says that Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) has been labeled the pregnancy hormone as it’s made by cells ‘formed in the placenta, which nourishes the egg after it has been fertilized and becomes attached to the uterine wall.’

The Food and Drug Administration said that HCG is not approved for weight loss purposes, and that ‘products marketed for weight loss that claim to contain HCG are typically marketed in connection with a very low-calorie diet, usually one that limits calories to 500 per day.’

The FDA’s Carolyn Becker said that ‘these products are marketed with incredible claims, and people think that if they’re losing weight, HCG must be working. But the data simply do not support this; any loss is from severe calorie restriction. Not from the HCG.’

According to the Mayo Clinic, ‘HCG is not approved for over-the-counter use, nor has it been proved to work for weight loss.’

Moakler’s remarks to the outlet came after her on-again, off-again boyfriend Matthew Rondeau, 29, was arrested February 24 in connection with felony domestic violence after he was accused of physically abusing the Celebrity Big Brother star.

Moakler’s manager David Weintraub told Page Six in the wake of the incident, ‘Thank you to everyone calling with concern about Shanna. She is OK and survived this traumatic experience.’

Moakler, who was seen with Rondeau on multiple outings in the wake of the arrest, did not specify if he was the father during her presumed pregnancy.
